Assistant Managing Editor, NBC National Security Unit
NBC News seeks a highly experienced assistant managing editor to help lead its national security, law enforcement, and legal affairs unit. This role will report to the Senior Executive Editor. Responsibilities include immediately responding to breaking news, rapidly approving sources, decisively assigning stories, and flawlessly editing and publishing pieces without errors at high speed. Breaking exclusive stories and beating the competition will always be a top priority. The ideal candidate is a strong editor with a deep knowledge of national security, law enforcement, and legal affairs. The editor will primarily work on written stories but should also prioritize working across platforms within the NBC News group like nbcnews.com, Nightly News, News NOW and MSNBC. Experience in television, investigative and data journalism is a plus. Responsibilities: Manage a team of correspondents, reporters, producers and associate producers covering national security, law enforcement and legal affairs Display at all times exceptionally strong news judgment, uncompromising journalistic ethics, calm under pressure, and attention to detail Maintain a deep and timely understanding of current events and ongoing coverage across NBC News platforms and competitors Develop robust, collaborative and working relationships with digital, television teams and editorial leaders across NBCUniversal News Group platforms
