NBC News Digital is looking for a deputy director to lead its owned platforms team each morning, helping drive and shape NBC News’ coverage for millions of readers across its homepage, app and partner platforms. This is a leadership role with a focus on managing and producing the platforms to the highest standards. The deputy director will lead its coverage of breaking news and will be in the nitty-gritty of daily curation with the team’s editors, ensuring NBC News’ platforms are always on top of the latest news and reflect the urgency, breadth and diversity of the organization's reporting. The ideal candidate is a strong editor who has experience identifying important stories and coordinating with editors across the newsroom to ensure those stories take shape on the homepage and app. They will be just as comfortable analyzing why a headline or alert performed well as they are writing eye-catching and engaging copy for our audiences. The role requires accuracy and speed under tight deadlines. Experience and comfort working under pressure, and an ability to remain calm, focused and organized during breaking news is essential. This is a full-time management position, Mon-Fri, based in New York. The scheduled hours are 6a-3p ET, but some additional work will be required outside of those hours, including very occasional holidays and weekends. This position reports to the director of owned platforms. Responsibilities Direct the curation and publishing of NBC News’ owned platforms each morning, ensuring the homepage, app, alerts and section pages are always up to date and produced to the highest standards. Direct live coverage and breaking news for the owned platforms team, coordinating with multiple teams to ensure articles, live blogs, live streams and videos come together on the homepage, app and on partner platforms, such as Apple News. Day-to-day planning, including planning for news events (major trials, state funerals) and special coverage (Olympics, elections). Lead the team’s morning planning and handover meeting between editors in London and New York. Write and edit sharp, accurate and engaging headlines, alerts and newsletter copy. Ensure the platforms are error free and accurate. Work with the photo and video teams to illustrate and visualize stories on desktop and mobile. Contribute to the development of the team’s audience engagement and distribution strategies. Analyze analytics, including alert and newsletter performance. Manage and coach editors, helping to develop their skills while nurturing a positive and supportive team culture.
